Digital Portraits, Colored Pencil on Wood, and more...
What is your artistic background?
My background is in fine arts. I spent years studying drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking, but I'm always learning and growing as an artist.
Who/what are your most important artistic influences?
Van Gogh, Lichtenstein, Warhol, Hokusai, Elizabeth Peyton, Frida Kahlo, and many more.
What type of art do you create and what motivates you to make it?
I'm primarily a portrait artist, whether the subject be human or animal. A lot of my digital designs are influenced by the kinds of pet portraits I enjoy creating. What I love most about portrait art is just how much emotion can be captured in such a brief moment in time.
Recently, I've been experimenting with architecture in art. I'm trying to honor historic buildings, starting with those closest to home.
What process, materials, techniques, etc., do you use to create your artwork?
I use a variety of mediums and techniques in my art. Digital artwork is drawn on an Ipad. I use colored pencils, paints, and charcoal for portrait work. Texture is the main element when I'm painting buildings, so I use a combination of fabric, wood, paint, and modeling paste to add sculptural elements.
What is success to you as an artist?
Every single piece or artwork is important. Success to me means bringing joy to people through my work.
